“If memory serves me correct”
Perhaps you said this at some time,
Something you wanted to recall
Was projected on your mind.
What a wonderful gift is memory
Especially, when it’s working well!
Without this storage facility
What would we be able to tell?
A huge difference from the animals
Is that they cannot tell,
You can probe them all day long
But they cannot tell whence they fell.
Though a memory they also have
Not a single experience can they relate
But humans can, and thank God they do,
This should put us in a better state.
Memory serves a dual purpose:
Namely, as a storage facility and recall
But in the animals, however clever,
Their storage facility is all.
Yes, they learn from their experiences
Because of their memory store
But other than adapting their behavior,
Animals can do little more.
Some animals can be highly trained
On account of their wonderful memory
But they cannot recount their training
Having only the storage facility.
The human memory is far superior
To that of the cleverest of animals,
And the proof of this fact is clearly shown
In an abundance of historic annals.
Had it not been for the humans
There would be no record of the animals
Since all that we know about them
Was documented by people.
Memory is a remarkable phenomenon
That speaks to the fact of a designer,
Just like the brilliant minds in our history
That created the remarkable computer.
With its hard drive memory for storage
And its random accessed memory for functionality,
We have a reasonable modular example
Of this Supreme Designer’s creativity.
We refer to Him as the Almighty God
Whom we worship and adore
And in His omnipotent and all wise ability
He has afforded us an open door.
Albeit, with limited and controlled access,
Humans are able to innovate,
Unlike the animals that from the beginning
Are unable to improve their state.
Memory has a deteriorating capacity
And its functionality wanes over time
But it is an astounding and remarkable facility
Especially when combined with the mind.
