Not of this World

GENERATIONS CHURCH of Granbury

Not of this world?

From whence came such?

Go with me to John chapter 18 verse 36

And you will see as much.

Jesus answered,

My kingdom is not of this world:

If my kingdom were of this world,

Then would my servants fight,

That I should not be delivered to the Jews:

But now is my kingdom not from hence.

“They are not of the world,”

He said, referring his disciples

And like his disciples, the born again

Are his chosen people.

We Are To Be In The World, Not Of The World… For The Sake Of The World – John 17 – davidworcester.net

Not of this world,

But pilgrims on a journey

To a city not made with hands

In the heavenlies.

To the new Jerusalem

That John saw coming down,

There’s nowhere on this earth

Where it can be found.

“For here,” said the Apostle,

“We have no continuing city,

But we seek one to come.”

Paul continued definitively.

For he looked for a city

Meaning Abraham,

Whose builder and maker is God

That originated this plan.

A city with foundations,

Not of rock and stone,

But built on the rock, Christ Jesus,

That is, our heavenly home.

The Church is the kingdom

Of Jews and Gentiles,

Both purchased with Jesus’ blood

Which none can defile.

Not replacement theology

But the unfolding of a plan

Conceived in eternity by the Trinity

And not by man.

For verily was our salvation

Before the foundation of the earth:

To the Jew first and then the Gentile

Delivering both from the curse.

BE IN THE WORLD, BUT NOT OF THE WORLD.

Not of this earth for either,

Jesus made this clear,

But of the new Jerusalem John saw

On Patmos Isle appear.

A kingdom that is spiritual

A kingdom within the born-again,

A kingdom that is eternal

A kingdom where Christ reigns.

And so, I reiterate

The reassuring words of Jesus

On which we can boldly stand

And in them place our trust.

Jesus answered,

My kingdom is not of this world:

If my kingdom were of this world,

Then would my servants fight,

That I should not be delivered to the Jews:

But now is my kingdom not from hence.

We Are To Be In The World, Not Of The World… For The Sake Of The World – John 17 – davidworcester.net

In the world

But surely not of the world

Yet, being the salt and the light

As we reflect God’s Word.

Who Are We Fooling?

Worried Sick: Health Anxiety, The 'Do-I-Have-This' Disorder

Here we have no continuing city

But we don’t want to leave

And if the prognosis is death

We cannot help but grieve.

Yet “we are going to a city”

And we sing it so lustily,

Where we shall be with our Jesus

Throughout eternity.

The world looks in wonderment

“Are these people for real?”

We appear as lost as they are

And our testimonies fail.

Fail to impress them, I mean,

For they see us every day

And they have seriously concluded

We are walking in their way.

Worrying and Anxiety — LDAY Centre for Learning

We take pride in our praying

And with fasting we are obsessed

But yet at nights, when we lay down,

Worry obstructs our rest.

We rush to God in a panic

Whenever there is bad news

And we pretend we have His peace

In the hope He won’t refuse…

Won’t refuse our requests

That we painstakingly detailed

To the God that knew everything

Yet in our asking we failed.

“God knows what’s best”

We declare it on the mountain top

But down in the valley it’s different

So, off that train we hop.

Yet God is our heavenly Father

Who is looking out for us,

Always as a matter of fact

But still, we lack the trust.

Uncertainty during the pandemic can lead to depression, anxiety

“God will take care of you”

I am sure you know this song

But yet we walk in uncertainty

Among the worldly throng.

Very unlike the Hebrew boys

That put their heads to the block,

Refusing to obey the king’s command

And to their knees won’t drop.

Though we pray incessantly

This world means much to us

And in similar trends to the world around

We get caught up in the fuss.

Prayers Beyond the Sick List – Boat14 WV

We’ve established a list for prayer

That we pray most of the time

And it appears there is no answer

Since it’s always on our mind.

What kind of being is God

That makes us beg and beseech,

That has promised to answer prayers

Even before we speak?

In plaintive tones we nag Him

Over and over again,

“But he always hears and answers”

And that’s our outdated claim.

“It’s going to be all right”

And we don’t mean in the by and by

But to the person in the trial

It’s just a feeble try.

Who are we fooling? I ask,

We are no different from most,

Though we pray and fast incessantly,

We make an empty boast.

As for me, I will trust in God

Just one day at a time,

For I cannot walk in tomorrow

Except in a troubled mind.

And when I am afraid

As I so often am,

I will trust in the Lord my God,

For I am only a man.

Money

I believe I work harder now
Than I have ever worked before
Particular in the area of the mind:
In that area I’m working more.

I know I spend more time sitting
So thoughts run through my mind
And I feel an urge to express them
Almost each and every time.

Like today I was just pondering
About this thing we call money
Who or what is its source?
I know that sounds kind of funny.

You hear about six-figure salaries
About millionaires and billionaires
And what strikes this runaway mind of mine
Is that all of this just isn’t fair.

Why do some have so little?
Why do some have more than enough?
Why do some have none at all?
Why do these have life so rough?

How could some own banks
As though they are a government
Or huge financial corporations
And still never seem content?

From where do they get the idea
That as long as someone else has money
They feel they must get that too?
Certainly that must be a form of gluttony

As a matter of fact it seems to me
That some control the money source
And block it wherever and whenever
So that another’s hands are forced.

I once heard from a friend of mine
An outstanding accountant is he
That money at no time leaves the system
Even when some go on a spending spree.

It changes hands and location,
Usually it goes from the poor to the rich
Who allow a little bit to trickle back;
Perhaps this is their little trick.

It works for them; it really does
That’s why the poor will always be poor,
They spend their money with the rich
And the rich just get more and more.

Not only does this occur with people
But it happens to countries too,
Hundreds of poor countries around the world
Are forced to spend with the rich few.

Money appears to me like water
That flows from the top of the hill,
The ones who control it are at the top
They always have more than their fill.

They impede the flow as they see fit
And open the dam to allow a trickle
Knowing quite well it will return to them
For the recipients must spend the little.

Meanwhile they have more than enough
That they can hoard and accumulate,
Not for a rainy day as in the poor man’s case
But to increase the demand for their sake.

Whenever we think of money
A number of images come to mind:
For the poor and poverty stricken
It is paper or cash by which it is defined.

For the moderately rich it’s a bank account
Somewhere in the thousands vicinity
But for the filthy rich and that’s a range
They have both worth and liquidity.

Some are millionaires of the multi-type
And these have accumulated their millions
But a few are richer than third world countries
With estates worth tens of billions.

But where is God in all of this?
Why does He allow such to occur?
Sometimes in running the affairs of the church
There are projects that have to be deferred.

Not because they are unnecessary
But because there is not enough money
And God owns the cattle on a thousand hills,
I am sure you find this rather funny.

But Jesus once told a Roman Governor
“My kingdom is not of this world.”
Find John chapter 18 and verse 6
And you will find it there in God’s Word.

“Here we have no continuing city,”
Hebrews 13:14 states “But we seek one to come.”
There will be wealth far exceeding billions
When Jesus ushers in his coming kingdom.

Therein there will not be a “have-not”
And no one will dam the flow,
There will be more than enough for every one
And God, who cannot lie, says it’s so.

Regarding many of the world’s richest
They already have their reward,
They have toiled for this world’s mammon
And their soul’s salvation abhorred.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil.”
According to verse 10 of 1st Timothy chapter 6,
From this it should be clear in everyone’s mind
That when money rules we are in a fix.

Do not lay up for yourselves earthly treasures
Where thieves will break in and steal
But lay up for yourselves, treasures in heaven
The result of which Matthew 6:20 reveals.

This world’s wealth will wane and decay,
A little money will help in this life
But an obsession with it will destroy its quality
And will bring mostly bitterness and strife.

Money will probably help just up to the grave
And encourage an elaborate turnout
But it won’t buy a fan to quell hell’s flames
Or a lozenge for sore throat when you shout.

No Continuing City Here

Image result for images for John 14:3

Here we have no continuing city
Hebrews 13 and verse 14 tells
We seek for a city to come
Where all will be forever well.

Day to day the problems mount
On this terrestrial plane,
All this will change in the coming age
When our Lord and Saviour reigns.

For he has promised to return
Having visited us once before,
The signs of that time are everywhere
Though of that day no man is sure.

It behooves us therefore to reflect
And look for his inevitable return,
“Even so come, Lord Jesus,”
John the divine in Revelation yearned.

“That pie-in-the-sky stuff again?”
Comes the snide reference to this event
And continuing with their way of life
The more God’s Word they resent.

But the believer need not be ashamed
When his stance is belittled like that,
It matters not how brilliant a man
His opinion cannot change the fact.

The fact according to John 14 verse 3
Is that Jesus is coming back,
His very words, “I will come again,”
Shows this promise is still intact.

As we reflect upon the daily news
Our hearts are assaulted by fear,
We wonder what will happen next
By whom, to whom and where.

There was a time we used to feel
Bad things happened elsewhere
But in the recent past we have seen
Such things also happen here.

The drive by shootings and violence,
The drug wars and homicides,
The scant respect for the sanctity of life
Result when God’s way we despise.

The errant youth from an early age,
The desecration of the family,
The blatant ignoring of the Word of God
Fosters rampant disharmony.

Same sex support by intellectuals
In the church and otherwise,
A stark departure from God’s design
By hirelings like shepherds disguised.

One’s orientation, a way of life
Advanced for his peculiar tastes,
Freedom to indulge in dishonourable acts
And that without being shamed faced.

A decreasing sense of etiquette
The common graces becoming extinct,
A complete abhorrence for law and order
The depth to which we daily sink.

Some would have their pie right here
Yes, in the present, right here, right now
And in order to satisfy this obsessive urge
They would to considerable extent bow.

Such that what we see as the problem
Are really just the symptoms of it
Satan being the chief architect
And the destruction of man, his edict.

Of course I know it takes a lot
For some to wrap their minds around this
But the symptoms of the problem sin
Comprise a lengthy list.

But one day coming in God’s own time
We will be rid of this sordid mess
And all of the believer’s challenges
Will be once and forever addressed.

In the meantime we occupy
As our Lord and Saviour bids us do
Not as though he’ll never come
But ever ready to bid this world adieu.

Each and every challenge confronted
Reminds us we are not here to stay
And our obsession with a pie right here
Is really not of God’s way.

For here we have no continuing city
But we seek for a city to come
Where Jesus will reign eternally
Over the redeemed in his kingdom.

A kingdom where God’s justice will prevail,
Where suffering will be no more,
Where saints and Saviour will be together
Forever on heaven’s shore.
