It’s Just a Problem

Is problem solving something you can work on getting better at, or is it just a skill you're born with? - Quora

It’s just a problem,

Solve it!

It’s only a problem,

Don’t quit.

Sounds amazing,

Doesn’t it?

But does this advice

Every problem fit?

See that pupil

Struggling with Math?

Here is encouragement

For him at last.

Just a problem?

Oh, I can solve it,

That’s what you do with a problem

I don’t have to skip.

A changed attitude,

That is just it!

It’s just a problem!

Don’t quit.

Not so easy, I dare say,

Not so easy at all!

It might be just a problem

But I am stalled.

I cannot solve it,

No solution insight,

It is really beyond me

I’m not this bright.

“It’s just a problem”

Sounds really great

But I wish I knew how,

So much is at stake.

It’s just a problem,

Solve it!

All a problem requires

Is to solve it.

It’s no more

And no less,

Just find the solution

That fits it best.

It’s just a problem

So, find its solution

And let’s bring this poem

To a conclusion.

A word to the PM

Re our national ship,

It’s just a problem,

Solve it!

Every problem

Comes with a solution,

It’s somewhere out there

In the confusion.

The confusion

That leaders create

Either to conceal the truth

Or make it dissipate.

It’s just a problem,

Solve it!

Easier said than done

So, I quit.

God’s Foreknowledge

THE FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD |

Did you always know

What you now know?

If every iota of it

Please show!

Do you now know

What you will know?

Well, if you already do,

How is this so?

Foreknowledge is knowing

Past, present and future,

Every iota of it:

The total picture.

Not just a part of it

But the entire volume,

Very unlike any human being

Who must assume.

So, I ask again,

Did you always know

What you now know?

Please show!

Do you now know

All you will ever know?

Well, if you already do

How is this so?

But God does:

Both future and past

And He is the only one

In His unique class.

The unit set

They would say in Math:

The only one to be found

In such a class.

This is not dumb!

Someone has to be

And He has to be omnipotent

To create all we see.

Infinite knowledge

With wisdom to boot

With never ever an occasion

To utter, “Oh, shoot!”

A mild admission

Something is wrong

But with the Almighty God

This does not belong.

God's Foreknowledge & Man's Free Will As Seen From A Compatibilist's Point Of View – Thinking It Out & Thinking It Through

Not a single mistake

Has God ever made,

It is beings with choice

That always have failed.

Lucifer in heaven

Adam and Eve on earth,

Both yearning to satisfy

Their lustful thirst.

But God is love

And love permits choice,

That is, to obey or disobey

The lover’s voice.

Love is not withheld

By what can happen

And neither was God’s love

When Satan threatened.

Ten Bible Verses that Delineate the Foreknowledge of God

God knows

What He always knew,

Nothing is hidden from Him

All’s within His view.

So, if you know

What you always knew

Then you would have to be God-

That’s a logical view.

But only God knows

What He always knew,

Therefore, let all men be liars

And let God be true.

No knowledge

Outside of God’s knowledge,

Foreknowledge in a narrow sense

Is God-given knowledge.

My Dilemma

The Super Easy Way to Learn Pronouns in English | Types of Pronouns | List of Pronouns with Examples - YouTube

I have a dilemma,

I must return to school,

Come on man, give me a hearing!

I am serious, I am no fool.

Forty years as an educator

Imparting what I had learned

And thirteen years prior to that

And now I must unlearn.

I must beg your indulgence

As I try to explain myself,

To be quite honest with you

This is affecting my health.

Not a problem with Math

At least, not yet,

But a major one with English Language

Which I now have to vet.

While back in primary school

I was taught English Language,

Now sixty years thereafter

It’s become difficult to manage.

Please, please,

I am getting to the matter,

Just hear me out and after this

I’ll no longer be a bother.

As a friend of mine would say

Let us be more specific,

This is about some special pronouns

Including he, she and it.

I learnt at school and taught

That ‘he’ is a masculine pronoun

‘She’ is regarded as feminine

And ‘it’ to neither belong.

They taught me ‘it’ is neuter

And that I knew for sure,

But neutered keeps on coming up

And I am confused the more.

Now these are singular pronouns

But there is the plural case:

Let me now identify these

And this I will do in haste.

The Super Easy Way to Learn Pronouns in English | Types of Pronouns | List of Pronouns with Examples - YouTube

Singular: he, she and it-

Plural: they and them!

I understood this quite readily then

But now I have a problem.

Now it seems we aim to please

A certain ‘minority group’

And this my friend, I will tell you,

Is how far we have stooped.

They intend to do away

With the ‘he’ and with the ‘she’

And propose that ‘they’ be used inclusively

To accommodate their absurdity.

For ‘him’ and ‘her’, I should mention,

We would use the pronoun ‘them’

But for singular and plural

This presents a problem.

How would we differentiate

Whether it’s singular or plural?

The way I learnt it back in school

This was rather simple.

I say refer to them as ‘it’

If they are neither he nor she

But do not mash up English Language

For this perverted stupidity.

So now you see my dilemma

And why I must go back to school,

It’s to unlearn what made sense back then

And now become a fool.

Mathematics: A Teaching Problem

Big Ideas Learning's Mathematics Teaching Practices Series: Implementing Tasks That Promote Reasoning and Problem Solving

“If you have taught

And there is no learning,”

Said a tutor many years ago,

“Then you have not taught.”

I struggled with this

For it did not make sense

And in my view way back then

This tutor had to be dense.

It was one of my early courses

At Erdiston Teachers’ College

And as far as I was concerned,

This was utter garbage.

He was blaming the teacher

For a pupil not learning:

For him, it was a teacher problem:

Transmitting not receiving.

I was young and cocky then

And I would have none of this

For, regarding my teaching prowess,

There was a lengthy list.

I was not only a natural

But I was endowed with passion,

Add to that a love for children

With subsequent flair and fashion.

I’d had a fair bit of success too

With pupils passing exams,

So, this tutor’s nonsensical ideology

I was forced to body-slam.

Apply Now At Erdiston Teachers' Training College | GIS

He was a mathematics tutor

And his grading was very tough,

After a few assignments results

You knew it was going to be rough.

For that mathematics course

I averaged just C+

And I must truthfully confess

At times I felt almost crushed.

He assured me years later

That I was a very good student

And he took some of the responsibility

For my subsequent achievement.

“If you have taught

And there is no learning,”

This tutor had stated,

“Then you have not taught.”

Back then he was my teacher

And the reason I was distraught,

My not learning was a teacher problem,

Yes!  It was his fault!

C+ was his mental set!

It was not really mine,

He was clearly annoyed with himself

Over a fixation back in time.

I have come a mighty long way

Since those early days

 And slowly but surely

I have mended my ways.

Much experience has been gained

From the exposure I have had

And the truth be told,

The good has eclipsed the bad.

I am retired now,

It is almost twelve years

And I am proving more and more

My greatest fear.

That that tutor was right

I now have no doubts,

One by one, the arguments I held

I have thrown them all out.

Teaching Mathematics Through Problem Solving – Mathematics Methods for Early Childhood

It’s a teaching problem

That retards pupil-learning

And this is particularly evident

In basic problem solving.

“Expose the pupils

To many and varied problems

And by the time of the examination

They will be able to solve them.”

Sounds good, Yes?

But so very wrong

Yet many teachers’ hold on this

Remains very strong.

“Practise, practise, practise!”

That’s the way some others go

But this too is just as wrong

As one practises what one knows.

Often the foundation is shaky

Or there may be none at all

And so, the scaffolding put in place

Must eventually fall.

The syllabus reigns supreme

At the expense of pupil learning

And it is often covered down

With little understanding.

“Telling” the pupil is optimum

Like the baking of a cake,

"This is what you do next,

Hurry up! It's getting very late!"

Most pupils are asking HOW?

Very few are asking WHY?

And with concept building non-existent,

There is little to apply.

Three basic levels to doing Math:

Skill, comprehension, application,

Problem solving rides on all of these

And is based on investigation.

Concept building is critical

And must never be treated lightly,

It must be informed by models

Either concrete or pictorially.

Much of math is outside

And of an informal nature,

Bench-ridden within the classroom

Is like old-age stricture.

From the intuitive to the concrete,

From the concrete to the semi-concrete,

From the semi-concrete to the abstract,

Not one we should delete.

Then the application should follow

With the communication right behind

And if the student can reflect all this,

How to learn is right on time.

The best learner is a teacher

That communicates what he learns

And with the passion that he derives,

For more learning he will yearn.

Learning is not the target

But how to learn is, instead,

And when the pupil hits the bullseye

We can say he is well-read.

Learning-strategies will develop

Problem solving will be a breeze,

And with less teacher-dependency

Pupils will learn with ease.

Learning is the ‘fish’ one catches,

How to learn is the “how to fish”,

The former is not sustainable,

The latter is the desired wish.

Do not ignore a pupil’s ‘why’

With a “This is the way to do it”,

Instead, encourage intelligent questioning

To make him better equipped.

Teacher, take responsibility

For the learning of every pupil,

Treat each one as your own offspring

And do not suffer in silence.

Encourage pupils to share

Ideas and methodologies,

Utilize their composite brain power

To come up with strategies.

Assign yourself a mentor

Or, maybe one or two or three,

And with the input from them all

The better you should see.

Mathematics is a teaching problem

And one the teacher must solve,

The student’s learning is the variable

That each teacher must resolve.

No True Gauge

Take A Look into The Future | Peak Updates

Four quarters in a year

And three are pretty much gone,

The past has been fairly daunting

And many are afraid to go on.

Gauging the future by the past

Is something most of us do

Especially if trended towards the bad

We expect the future to be too.

Hence, September remember:

Remember that 1955 storm!

And so, whenever September comes,

The sign goes up, “Be Warned!”

Thus October, it’s all over!

Gauging the future by the Past

But the past reminded us again

Such projections do not last.

So now our hurricane season

Lasts from June to November,

It’s not all over in October

And this we must remember.

And now wisely reflecting

On the months that have flown

We still can’t know the future

For the future is unknown.

Our experts can project

Based on calculated probability

But never mind how astute the math,

The past is never destiny.

You Can't Predict the Future; You Can Only Plan for It - Capitol Communicator

“There will be” is no guarantee:

Of the future none is sure,

There is definitely no tomorrow

And the past is no more.

No true gauge of the future

The past can ever be,

The most that we can be sure of

Is the present we now see.

And even this is limited

For our sight is severely flawed,

All the more reason, my friend,

Why we need to trust in God.

Trust no future, howe’er pleasant!

Let the dead Past bury its dead!

Act, act in the living Present!

Heart within, and God o’erhead!
