Fate Is What It Is

“As fate would have it,”

I’ve often heard uttered

Or, “Don’t tempt fate,”

When daredevilry takes another.

As though fate is a spirit

Just hovering around

Waiting for some opportunity

To take someone down.

A certain resignation

To some predestined destiny

Like “Que sera-sera”

“What will be will be”.

Like fate is always bad

Though very often it is

Causing us more often than not

That bad to reminisce.

What Does Ecclesiastes 3:1 Mean?

Fate is a timeline

On which there are events:

Some good and some bad

Whatever one’s intent.

Which suggests to me:

We can determine our fate

Depending on the lifestyle

That we choose to take.

Fate is an outcome

But based on the process too,

Fate is actions and outcomes

Aka the things we do.

While we live life forward

We analyze it from the back

And however brilliant our analysis

It’s after we’ve been trapped.

When it is the good fate

We make boastful claims,

But when it is ill fated

We apportion the blame.

What Does Ecclesiastes 3:1 Mean?

But back to the timeline

And those inevitable events:

The good ones we plan for

And the bad ones we resent.

Some lives seem plagued

With an unfair share of the bad,

And these are oft inundated

With fate that makes one sad.

For many others, however,

The opposite holds true,

These enjoy the good life

Regardless of what they do.

Still there are others

That experience a balanced mix

As though already weighed out

And appropriately affixed.

For the most part, though,

Group 2 is the hapless one

Forced into resignation

As though all hope is gone.

People make their own fate

I have heard some tell

But some did the right things

And life was a living hell.

To me this is unexplainable

Though some try to explain,

Fate is what it is

Whether pleasure or pain.

It comprises every event

And will inevitably occur:

Some are good and some bad

But to the bad we mostly refer.

The behaviours we practise

Constitute these timeline events

As well as the outcomes

Whether or not our intent.

Fate is every action we take

As well as every outcome,

All registered on the timeline

Whether to come or already done.

Que Sera Sera

What will be will be
It must be so,
What must be must be
Who are we to know?

It is its own evidence
It’s a historic fact
And that the fact occurred
We can’t change that

But “what-if” so an so
Is good for argument
But “what-if” did not occur
“What-if” is no event.

If “what-if” could happen
History would change
And most of what we know
We would rearrange.

I would go and undo
The things I have done
And my race would differ
From the one I have run.

A loved one that’s passed
I would bring back
And by using a “what-if”
That would be a fact.

But that can’t happen
For what will be will be,
Thank God Almighty
The future we cannot see.

For had we seen the future
What would we have done?
We would run the same
As we have run.

Prophecy changes nothing
It just states the fact,
The future becomes history
And we can’t change that.

What will be will be
Why can’t we see that?
The future must happen
History records that fact.

But the consolation is
We cannot see the future,
None but God does;
He sees the entire picture.

His Word admonishes
That we make the choice
Of taking Jesus as Saviour
And listening to his voice.

Some things will happen
The Bible is clear
But the born again child of God
Has no need to fear.

For prophecy is history
That is written down,
God doesn’t make it happen
It will come around.

The last verse is critical
Please understand
God does not do evil,
The future is not His plan.

Look the Bible through
And you will see
God has always countered evil
As shown in history.

What will be will be
That is very true
But you still have a choice:
There is something you can do.

It’s a choice for eternal life
And you can do it today,
Take Jesus as your Saviour
And follow in his way.

For you can’t change the future-
That you cannot do,
But if you take Jesus
God will change you.

What will be will be
Need not concern me,
I have taken Jesus as Saviour
And he is my destiny.
