It’s not a weird title
If you read what follows,
I do admit that at first glance
It appears quite hollow.
But journey with me
And see where I am going
For unless you accompany me
There’s no way of knowing.
Back in the sixties
There was a cigarette,
Trumpeter was the brand;
How can I forget?
It was the only cigarette
That I ever smoked
And I shared it with a friend
Oh, what a joke!
I took a puff
And then he took a puff
And after my second puff
For him it was enough.
Off he ran
And that was the end
Of my two-puffs smoking journey;
‘Tis true my friend.
Not so for him
As he smoked for years
And I am happy he ran off
And the cigarette disappeared.
But Trumpeter went out
Very long ago
Until this morning
Up they show!
It was not possible
That they could return
But non-smoking Trumpeters’
Hearts now burn.
Someone told me
Trumpeter could not win
And he continued in essence
Yankies are not that dim.
But Trumpeter is back
And this is a fact
So, accept the stark reality
And put away the plaque.
The commemoration plaque
Re his expected demise,
Trumpeter is back, I tell you,
And not in disguise.
Not a narrow margin
But rather significant
Such that Kamala ran away
From her constituents.
She will speak today:
A promise made
But no doubt she was shocked
By the fact she failed.
Trumpeter is back
With his great following
And many will have difficulty
With their swallowing.
Not from lung cancer
But cancer of the throat
As Trumpeter has amassed
Most of the votes.
Trumpeter is back
In the form of Trump:
The second bite at the cherry
In his political stunt.
I was checking to see
If it’s been done before,
Perhaps you can enlighten me
If you know more.
I had two puffs
And that was it for me,
Trump has done the same:
Two bites at the cherry.
My latest research
Comes in this penultimate verse,
Grover Cleveland did before
So, Trump was not first.
In 1884 and in 1892
With '88 in between
Thus, Trump has journeyed
Where Cleveland has been.
