The Lone Apple

Why the lone apple

The monkeys left?

I do not know,

It’s anybody’s guess.

Four were there

And they took three,

Why not all four

Is a puzzle to me.

Days have passed

And one still remains

Continuing to flourish

Come sun or rain.

Monkey conscience

Can never be,

I believe those monkeys

Are toying with me.

I am expecting

That someday soon

That remaining apple

Will be doomed.

I keep a lookout

Relatively vigilantly so

And when I least expect,

They will show.

Here is the thing

Via which I will know,

That lone remaining apple

Will be a no-show.

Should I pick it

Or should I let it stay?

Don’t just read this poem,

Have your say.
