The outlook is bleak
As COVID-19 rages on
Having reached new heights
As the New Year dawns.
The fear of community transmission
Has become very real
As five COVID-19 cases
Tell the grim tale.
Two prison officers
Plus three other cases
Counted among ten persons
From various places.
In summary: five imported
And five here-about,
That there is local transmission
Is the news coming out.
Into 2021
And things looking bleak,
COVID-19 coming in at the airport
Could be now on the street.
No need to panic
But we are urged to take a pause,
These five non-imported cases
Are clearly the cause.
Hence, vigorous contact tracing
Over this extended weekend
To sort out this development
When we were rounding the bend.
It sounds a little hollow
To proffer New Year’s greetings
But I will do so nevertheless
And this is worth repeating.
Happy New Year!
Yes! A Happy New Year!
Let us continue to be upbeat
Amidst these COVID-19 fears.
Adhere to the protocols,
And don’t let your guard down,
There are still effective ways
We can spread cheer around.
Send someone an e-mail
Or text someone a note
And for those not on the Internet
The telephone gets my vote.
Stay safe and stay at home
Wherever this is possible
And if you must definitely go out
Stay away from trouble.
Into 2021
You must protect yourself,
For a few hours of revelry
Don’t compromise your health.
Have a happy New Year!
This is surely worth repeating,
In spite of this COVID-19 onslaught
That is my New Year greeting.
