When Is a Position just a Position?

Acts 2:38 - When pursuing faith in Jesus Christ and living in the abundant life Jesus promised, we must seek truth and reject tradition that is contradictory. Share this with your friends

When is a position just a position

Especially regarding the Word?

“That’s my position regarding this matter,”

I’m sure you’ve often heard.

This is the Wesleyan position

Some would pontificate

And highlighting their denomination

They would go on to elaborate.

Or, they quote a renowned source

And with that one, take a stand

In an attempt to convince the opposition

To join the winning band.

Often there are so many positions,

Each one sounding like the truth

That we constantly change our position

After reviewing another’s proof.

Eschatology 101: The Olivet Discourse, or Why Preterism? (Part 1)

Even as I write this poem

I am confronting this dilemma:

Some, I believe are sincere and genuine

And some with a hidden agenda.

I must confess to you, my reader,

I’ve been convinced to change

Somethings that I taught and preached

And now I think them strange.

Not strange in that I believed them

Or doubt my teachers’ sincerity

But having diligently searched the Word

I can see little veracity.

Some positions have been held

For an inordinately long time

Such that even when the error is shown

Some will not change their mind.

Notice I said “will not”

Though you may argue “cannot”

For some see their denomination first

And consider such their lot.

Primarily it’s men’s traditions

And secondarily, God’s Word

Thus, some hold very strongly to position

Even when position is absurd.

It is not easy after many years

To research with an open mind

If firsthand knowledge seems convincing

And has stood the test of time.

Notice I said “the test of time”

And not the Bible’s approbation

For while we cannot show it in the Word

Time is our abiding consolation.

Sometimes we are gravely afraid

That the truth will find us out

So that the denomination is always correct

Even when we are in doubt.

How To Find The North Star - YouTube

Like the proverbial north star

Its position holds for life

And studying the Word in light of its stance

Is better than cognitive strife.

When is a position just a position

Especially regarding the Word?

It invariably always is, of course, unless,

It is stated in God’s Word.

As you and I know so very well

Positions change over time

And sometimes do so just as frequently

As people change their mind.

Can It Be Trusted?

What is My Worth According to the Bible? | Oak Ridge Baptist Church

How accurate is the Bible?

How truthful are its claims?

How does it line up with the original?

Is the information the same?

Is the OT truthful to the Hebrew?

Is the NT in sync with the Greek?

And must I know one or both of these

To with some authority speak?

When I see the word God

What does it really mean?

Is it inclusive, exclusive or neither?

From God what can I glean?

Can I trust the English Bible?

Can I trust what is written there?

Or do I need a discerning seer

That is especially prepared?

What Is the Bible? The Meaning of Scripture

To what must I have access

If God’s Word I must grasp?

Must I enroll in Bible Seminary

Or attend some Bible class?

For whom was the Bible intended?

For a particular group?

Or, can I with certainty assume,

Everyone is in the loop?

Is it the truth referred to

Into which the Holy Spirit will lead?

Is it serious about the Holy Spirit

Or, is it just make-believe?

Can I trust the Holy Bible?

Can it stand on its very own?

Or, must I consult another source

Since it cannot stand alone?

How to Use Bible Commentaries - Bible Gateway Blog

So many commentators

And so many Bible commentaries,

So many varying opinions

And exaggerated complexities.

When the Spirit of truth is come

He will guide as Jesus said,

The Bible is the truth about Jesus

That the Spirit teaches instead.

O yes!  It can be trusted,

Thus, I dare to earnestly believe

That whosoever is led by the Spirit

Will of its treasures receive.

It guides the searching sheep

To the Shepherd’s fold

Where here and the hereafter

There are treasures to behold.

8 Reasons to Cling to Scripture in Your Suffering

Dare to uncover its richness

With the lead of the Holy Spirit

And let its God-given directives

Become your daily habit.

Extra sources have their place

If based in the Holy Word

But to make them your primary source

Is absolutely absurd.

Can the Bible be trusted?

O yes!  It can be trusted,

It will withstand the test of time

And never will be busted.

Matthew 24:35; Mark13:31

Heaven and earth

 shall pass away

But the Word of the Lord

stands forever.
