Steady Now

 

 

Look before you leap!

Don’t be like a silly sheep,

What appears to be shallow now

Could very well be deep.

 

A safe country for safe people

To do safe work,

Let this be our endeavour

Please, don’t be a jerk.

 

We had COVID under control

And we carelessly let him slip

And into our limited resources

He made a humongous dip.

 

We’ve come a long way since-

Don’t let him slip again,

We can do a lot better this time

If only we use our brains.

 

The positivity rate is decreasing

The active cases are less,

We are reopening gradually

Let’s put COVID-19 to rest.

 

 

Remind COVID 2019 has passed

And we are into 2021

And by our behavior, say to him,

“Get out of Barbados and be gone!”

 

It has been long and trying

And at times it’s been very hard,

However, now we are getting ease

Let us not drop our guard.

 

For all that COVID-19 needs

Is that little start-up breeze

And before we could say AstraZeneca vaccine

Again we’d be feeling his squeeze.

 

 

First wave then second wave-

We don’t want a third wave too,

Let’s treat COVID like a bad relationship

And tell him we are through.

 

Some have weathered his storm

And now have zero active cases,

That is because they fought COVID

From all the possible bases.

 

One wave was enough for them

And they made sure that was all,

They paused and instituted curfews

And adhere to the protocols.

 

We must follow their example

And frustrate COVID’s plans

But in order to achieve their success

It will require every woman and man.

 

Cut out all the foolishness

And let us starve COVID to death,

And do not allow our guard to drop again

Until we are sure he is put to rest. 

 

And look before you leap!

Refrain from being a silly sheep

For what appears to be the all clear now

May be COVID just having a sleep.

 

Please don’t rush out tomorrow

Like all is normal again,

For if we suffer a third wave now

That would be a national shame.
