I had been driving a while
Without stopping to check
Though I had gotten far more
Than I expected to get.
The old car was faithful
And it responded very well
But I constantly ignored
Every warning bell.
There was one I couldn’t,
It was the check engine light
But I was so far from home
That it gave me a fright.
O how I wished
That I had checked my car
But this was just wishful thinking
Things had gone too far.
It is no different today
With how the trends are shaping,
Very poor
decisions and choices
We are repeatedly making.
And what is most amazing
Is we argue they are best
And become more adamant
When they don’t pass the test.
There is the gender issue
And there is same-sex marriage,
And we are heading downhill
In a broken carriage.
Fighting for all the wrong rights
But shirking our responsibilities
And developing a society
With the weirdest of philosophies.
Ignoring the check engine light
And all other warning signs
As our society catapults downward
Into steep moral decline.
It is now high time to stop
For a much-needed reality check
And stop ignoring the warning signs
That we constantly get.
Our children being whisked away
In our immoral slime
And suspect checks and balances
Are two of the signs.
So many things are broken
But we are turning a blind eye
And the reality check goes unheeded
As the truth we deny.
“Those Christians are weird
They want to spoil our good time
And exchange it for the drudgery
To which they are confined.
Don’t you see how they solicit
And unashamedly coax?
But their call for a reality check
Is nothing but a hoax.”
So this runaway train
That we refer to as our society
Will undoubtedly be derailed
Bringing great tragedy.
It’s like a plane in a nosedive-
Pull up!
Pull up! Pull up!
But we ignore the warning
And continue to ride our luck.
It is reality check time
Unspeakable disaster threatens,
Don’t ignore the check engine light
And boast it will never happen.
Pull up! Pull up! Pull up!
The findings of the reality check,
Pull up! Pull up! Pull up!
Pull up and avoid the wreck.
