If yesterday’s truth is today’s lie
Then truth must be relative,
Relative to what, I cannot say,
What answer can I give?
A little girl caught in a lie
Is required to tell the truth,
Such truth pertains to an incident:
On her is the burden of proof.
Did she do it or did she not?
Her response is one or the other,
One is the truth; the other is not;
Neither is a different matter.
Truth is not relative to a person-
Not the truth that is absolute,
Neither is it relative to time
As some are wont to dispute.
It is not determined by law
Or even established thereupon,
It is synonymous with the Word
And also issues therefrom.
Jesus is the absolute truth
Not the “who-done-it” kind,
He is the truth that changes not-
Nor affected by man or time.
Truth is therefore a person
Unlike the dictionary’s definition,
It’s the person of Jesus Christ
In whom we have salvation.
Synonymous with the Living Word
And the Written Word of Him,
It’s the truth that points us to Jesus
And that saves us from our sin.
Today when one hears the truth
It’s often about someone,
And depending on that someone
It could stand or be quickly gone.
If an important other says it
Then it has to be the truth
But if an opponent is the source
He’d better come with proof.
That’s not the truth that matters;
Not the truth that is set in eternity,
Know the truth, the Bible says
And this truth shall make you free.
If the Son shall set you free,
You shall be free indeed,
He is the only truth that matters
Pertaining to your eternal need.
