He darkened the room in white
At midday it was the middle of the night,
They were peaceably involved in a fight
He slackened his grip to make it tight.
Up to one was down
While down to the other was up,
They were married for all their life
And their groove in a definite rut.
While apart they were together
Though their togetherness was quite apart,
Their confusion was a foregone illusion
And all they did was from the heart.
Smooth for him meant rough
And for her, as you’d expect, the opposite
And while he disagreed quite often,
For her it was never really a habit.
They liked the same very foods
Though on all of them they disagreed,
Consequently, they refrained from eating
Though of the gluttonous breed.
Until death do we part they had said
And they both meant every single word,
They were in fact the perfect odd couple
Though at no time they concurred.
They were married for a short while
Longer than either cared to remember
And what was certainly good for the goose
Was absolutely not for the gander.
Not the usual kind of newly-weds
Not at all, they certainly weren’t
But what can surely be said for them both
Was that they were insanely different.
Yes, they were the perfect odd couple
Their marriage was nothing but trouble
And neither was prepared to grovel
Certainly not in the other’s rubble.
So, he darkened the room in white
But she lit it up in black
And together they lived happily apart
Both mad and also half-cracked.
