Something Must Be Done And Soon!

Sentenced to Death via Global Pandemic? ACLU Fights for Prisoner's Safety During COVID-19 | KSFR

Incarcerated they were

After their lawyer had failed

To impressed the judge

They should be granted bail.

Argument after argument

Was presented to the judge

But the judge too was adamant

And refused to budge.

Many had suffered lost

As they made their rounds

And when the sheet was read

Many charges abound.

The One-Two Combo: Employing a Gun and Knife Combination - ITS Tactical

They had terrorized communities

With both knife and gun

Such that when they were seen

People would just run.

Brazen they were

And masks they wore none

Threatening if one spoke up

His life would be done.

From car to bicycle

And anything that could move

Both stealing and robbing

Were right up their groove.

Some suffered personal injury

When they tried to resist

And it only got worse

If they continued to persist.

Whether you were out

Or simply relaxing at home

It mattered not to them

Whether in company or alone.

It was as though they planned

A certain night was the night,

They could operate in darkness

Like we function in light.

Meaning of 'By the Book'

But their comeuppance had come

At least that’s how it looked,

This judge was bent

On playing it by the book.

He set down the matter

To be tried the following week,

He was furiously adamant

This appointment they would keep.

Hence remand was the best

They were ferried off to jail,

As clever as their lawyer was

This time he had failed.

The trial date quickly came

But the matter was put back,

However this time the clever lawyer

Held the winning track.

He again argued for bail

And this time did not fail,

They were released on conditions,

Hence no more jail.

They were off for a week

So they had to make up time,

They were soon at it again

Their career and pastime was crime.

They deemed it a success

But our legal system had failed,

Hence the many walking our streets

That should really be in jail.

The villains are succeeding

Where our legal systems fail

And prospective victims live in fear

For the villains not kept in jail.

It is not unusual or uncommon

For villains on bail to repeat

The very same crimes done before;

This is their special treat.

Two B’s are clogging our system

And I am not talking politics:

B for bail and B for backlog

And both these B’s must be fixed.

The sooner done the better

Please don’t let it get worse

For if it is not soon attended to

This country will be accursed.
