The Day-to-Day Grind

Faith versus fear
Belief versus doubt
And every day we wonder
How the battle will turn out.

This is a see-saw battle
As it turns out for most
At times up and sometimes down
Depending on the host.

It’s like partner dominoes
Two versus two,
We can be quite fatigue
When the day is through.

Faith combines with belief
To get us through the day
Fear gets together with doubt
And to thwart us in the way.

Often we will fall heavily
On doubt’s slippery slope
And fear will cloud our minds
Making it difficult to cope.

We are afraid to get up
Our faith has taken a knocking,
Our belief begins to waver
And our ship begins a-rocking.

The day is long and dreary
The ending seemingly distant
But the fears of oncoming night
Are also quite dominant.

Fear and doubt are winning
The soul is quite disturbed,
Faith and belief are drifting
No visibility of the Word.

But the Holy Spirit is faithful
And he is always on time,
Suddenly with the Word
He reshapes the believer’s mind.

Belief gives rise to faith
And the fallen begins to stand
As the Word brings into focus
God’s omnipotent hand.

Another victory for faith
Belief is established again,
Prospects are bright for the day
With hope for the night in train.

The just shall walk by faith
Belief is essential to this,
Put fear and doubt to the sword
And from evil desist.
