Cancellation and consolation
Opposites you may tend to see
Cancellation and consolation
Similar they may very well be
Cancellation of my sin
And with no charge to me
Consolation: Jesus paid the price
And now I am set free
Cancellation of my death
And the victory of the grave
Consolation: both are swallowed up
By the death Christ paid
Cancellation of the judgment
Regarding all of my sin
Consolation: I have been forgiven
I now stand in Him
Cancellation of the worry
And anxiety I still feel
Consolation: Jesus the Christ
My security has sealed
Cancellation of the fear
That caused me to dread
Consolation: replaced by faith
In my Living Head
Cancellation of the hate
That once filled my breast
Consolation: God’s love casts out fear
And brings peace and rest
Cancellation of the Mosaic Law
And its accompanying curse
Consolation: now the law of Christ
After which I thirst
Cancellation of my dependency
On the enemy of my soul
Consolation: reliance on my Saviour
In whom I am made whole
Cancellation of the obsession
With this world’s affairs
Consolation: Jesus is the answer
And the mediator of my prayers
Cancellation of the hopelessness
And this world’s strife
Consolation: replaced by hope in Jesus
Who is the way, the truth and life
Cancellation of the bondage
And enslavement to sin
Consolation: Liberty in Christ
And real freedom in Him
Cancellation of the notion
That salvation is partly earned
Consolation: In Christ alone
That is the lesson to be learned
Cancellation of Satan’s premise
That I can summon help on demand
Consolation: replaced by God’s promise
That for me He has a plan
Cancellation of the adversary’s goal
To steal, to kill and destroy
Consolation: Jesus is come to give life
And all our faculties employ
Cancellation of this earth
And Satan roaming throughout its coasts
Consolation: relocated in that Holy City
With the Trinity and all the heavenly hosts
Cancellation and consolation
Opposites you may tend to see
Cancellation and consolation
Similar they may very well be
In this life however
The former we more readily see
For when our plans are cancelled
The latter means little to you and me
