From heaven he came
To this earth
below
Destined to become
Man’s greatest foe
A selfish ambition
To overthrow the Most High
Though a creature of God
He would still try
A third of the angels
He took with him
And to this day
They are the agents of sin
God cast him down
And his angelic support
That day justice was done
In the heavenly court
God the righteous Judge
Had stamped his authority
And these unjust rebels
Were doomed for eternity
No chance of restoration
Bound for eternal damnation
Outside the ambit of redemption
Past the hope of salvation
From heaven he came
To this earth below
Destined to confront
Man’s greatest foe
Just one difference
Between verses 1 and 7
Concerning the two
That came down from heaven
The first was forced
He wasn’t willing to leave
He foolishly attempted
God’s glory to steal
The second of course
Came because of love
He was willing to leave
All his glory above
He came to confront
The enemy of our soul
And bring the lost sheep
Back to his fold
It was a victory for love
As love defeated hate
Thank God love won
Since so much was at stake
For a while it looked
As though hate had won
When love’s champion
From the cross had hung
But came the cry
From God’s beloved Son
“It is finished!” expressing
The work was done
Just three days hence
From the grave he arose
Love had conquered
Mankind’s greatest foe
Today love intercedes
On our own behalf
As God lovingly shapes us
As His own handicraft
Love is God’s signature
On the born again
Come drought or high water
In sunshine and rain
And for every lost sheep
That comes in the fold
Love rejoices in heaven
Over that born again soul
