Does this sound familiar?
I am sure it doesn’t
But based on what I am seeing
It is alarmingly frequent.
“Work smartly”
Is a slogan I have heard
And it makes a lot of sense to me
In that it is not absurd.
Sounds like being efficient
If you see what I mean,
Saving time and saving energy
Is what I naturally glean.
Get the job done properly
But do it in an efficient way,
The lever and the pulley systems
Are still used today.
Don’t use a sledge hammer
To kill a tiny insect,
While this may be very effective
Efficiency it does not reflect.
Being efficient, my friend,
Is not what this title implies
But it is downright laziness
That cannot be denied.
Do note with me if you will
What goes on in boardrooms,
Here we have a clear indication
On what the title zooms.
Talk, talk and more talk,
Incessant talk, if you will,
And after days, weeks and months,
No implementation still.
Welcome friends and foes
To the new technological age,
Unless we can get a machine to do it
It stays at the planning stage.
Avoiding necessary work
Seems to be the way to go
And at the expense of much money
Is what payrolls show.
I have seen it in offices
To which I had to go,
Everybody’s busy doing nothing
As if it’s the general flow.
You can also call it shirking
And I would fully agree
More so in Government run offices
As though they’re on a spree.
Facial expressions show it,
Body language spells it out,
That there is an aversion to work
Is blatantly without doubt.
Offices loaded with workers
Are on the shoulders of just a few,
Most avoiding necessary work
Including the supervisory crew.
Avoiding necessary work
Has in reality become a skill,
Thus, making otherwise easy tasks
A strenuous climb uphill.
And so, a definition of a shirker
Is avoiding necessary work,
Shirkers are found at every level
And some are called experts.
