No need to know the times
As the children of Issachar did
But to propagate the glorious Gospel
That was from them hid.
For the Gospel as we know it
Was not revealed to them
Even though they were a part of it
From way back then.
They were aware, however,
Regarding the changing of the guard
That David would replace Saul
And Saul would take this hard.
It should not surprise us
How this matter was processed
But rather, come to the conclusion
That God’s way is always best.
Out of the tribe of Judah
Shiloh, the Messiah would come,
Judah was neither Jacob’s oldest
Nor even his favourite son.
Of the priestly tribe he wasn’t
Nor any other reason we could tell,
Only that God is the one that chose
And God always chooses well.
The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet
And this prophecy did materialize
Exactly as the prophet did speak.
“It is finished,” Jesus had said,
Followed by his glorious resurrection,
Pentecost was not far behind
With its declaration of salvation.
Jacob had divulged the promise
On the eve of his departure,
His twelve sons were all gathered ‘round
For this prophetic picture.
Each of them formed a tribe
But Judah was the tribe that was chosen
From which the Messiah would emerge
And all sin would be forgiven.
Moses came from Levi
While Joshua came from Ephraim,
Gideon from Manasseh and Samson from Dan
And Saul from Benjamin.
Judah would relinquish the scepter
Only when Shiloh came
And Shiloh came as Jacob prophesied
And Matthew recorded his name.
And his name shall be called Jesus
For he shall save his people from sin,
His people meaning not only the Jews
But all them that trust in him.
It is not for us to know
Neither the times nor the seasons
But to carry out the command of Jesus
As given in the great commission.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world.
Amen.
