No stores are open
And the shops are all closed,
Little activity is going on,
We are mostly indoors.
Sheep are tethered at home
So too the cows,
Not even indoor games
Are being allowed.
Sunday school for everyone
And church thereafter,
It is about sobriety and reflection:
Absolutely no laughter.
Rum shops are closed too,
And the drunkards are sober
Not just here in Barbados
But the world all over.
Even Seventh Day Adventists
Also comply,
Remember no shops are open
From which to buy.
It is the law of the land
Any offence is a criminal act,
Fast forward, my goodly friend,
We are too far back.
I had you for a moment
You thought I was mad,
But I simply rewound to the past
When things weren’t so bad.
The pendulum has swung
But it will scarcely swing back,
It is stuck at the father end-
This is a fact.
No difference between
Sunday and any other day,
And except for the church goers
It is the general way.
However, be advised
That this is not my beef,
I will not major on a given day,
That view has ceased.
Every day is the Lord’s
And should be lived for Him
That died to save the whosoever
From their sin.
One may regard Sunday,
Another, some other day,
But at the end of the argument
Jesus is the way.
So, shop if you must
Whether Sunday or Saturday,
But remember, I repeat,
Jesus is the way.
The only way actually
Where by one may be saved,
You see, eternal salvation
Is not about a day.
It is really about Jesus
God’s only begotten Son,
Begotten only in the sense
He was born of a woman.
He was of the Holy Spirit
As the Scriptures clearly state,
There is none other like him-
No need for a debate.
And so, I wish you today
A reflective Sunday,
Not focusing on the distant past
But on Jesus, the way.
