God Owes No Man

 

 

Ever noticed in the book of Job

That God gives no explanation?

I suppose for those anti-God critics

Such defies comprehension.

 

As a matter of fact,

Some consider this reprehensive

That rather than an explanation

God appears to be dismissive.

 

The truth be told, God owes no man

However great or small,

Not even an explanation!

God owes no man at all.

 

He’s not accountable to you or me

He’s not answerable to any man,

None of us could require He submit

A detail creation plan.

 

Not one of us was even around

As shown in His discourse with Job,

So, to whom was He subject?

What was it that God owed?

 

 

Seventy-seven questions posed

And the ancient Job flunked all,

Not very intelligent, you would say,

But not even that is your call.

 

We would have done worse

Even with our advanced technology

And I mean even if we consider

An Einstein or another prodigy.

 

God owes us nothing, I repeat,

Not even a mere explanation

For anything He has done either before

Or after creation.

 

The fact there is so much suffering

Explains why there is no God:

This is advanced by many pundits

And by critics spread abroad.

 

His people pray all day long

And there is absolutely no change:

Such is propagated by the naysayers

That consider Christians deranged.

 

How could God speak into being

And with just a word create

And not do something about a world

In such abhorrent state?

 

Why did he not hear and honour

The prayer of that faithful saint

But instead, let her one and only child die?

Don’t you find that rather quaint?

 

 

These and so many more questions

Are posed day in and day out

As we seek explanations from God

Especially when in doubt.

 

Surely God is a monster God

Or He has a weird sense of humour,

Or more than that, He must be impotent

Regarding this world’s behavior.

 

But God is no man’s debtor

Either through apology or explanation,

He alone has the right to determine

Man’s acceptance or rejection.

 

Some have said in their ignorance

They will have some questions for God

When they get over on the other side

As though that is their call.

 

I will remember nothing from here

And that is my belief,

In any case, why would I want to

As I experience such blessed relief?

 

God owes no man!

Not even an explanation

And whether you like it or not

That is my summation.
