Can February March?
No April May,
And concerning June or July
What can anyone say?
We know February March
And April May,
June, July and August
The rest quickly speeds away.
January’s the beginning
February’s the month of love,
March is militant
And April showers from above.
June is too soon
But in no time comes July,
August rushes past
Just before September flies by.
October, it’s all over
No, not quite so fast,
Next speeds by November
And December comes in last.
Twelve months disappear
Just like that
And before you know it
January is back.
It is like this year
That only just began
And it’s galloping away
Like the speed of a fan.
A year seems shorter
Than when I was young,
Sometimes I wonder
If it’s twelve months long.
February I can understand
That’s only twenty-eight days
But the other eleven months
Used to have delays.
Four delayed two days
And seven delayed by three
Now they all pass as quickly,
That’s how it seems to me.
It’s the speeding year
As if no police are around,
It should really get reported
But no police can be found.
Plan what you have to do
Allow for some extra time,
For if you are caught speeding
You will have to pay the fine.
Don’t blame it on the year
That flits so quickly by
Or you may spend a long year
In the cell you occupy.
For if you cannot pay the fine
You may have to be confined
And while now a year seems short
Then it will be more time.
Don’t be like the speeding year
The police will never clock,
Keep within the speed limit
So your salary won’t be docked.
