Just Brighten the Corner Where You Are

You are just a candle affixed in your space
So let your light shine that others may trace
Its beam as it lights just near not far
Just brighten the corner where you are.

You worry about lights much brighter than you
You fret and you grumble all the day through
Wondering if perhaps your light could be made new
No! Just brighten the corner that belongs to you.

But he has a long light and mine’s too short
And she has a pretty one but mine is a wart
Your light’s not for comparing to the light that is mine
Just stop your grumbling and let your light shine.

Lights are all different I am sure you can see
Like those you find on the Christmas tree
But each one has its purpose I am sure you agree
As it lights its little corner much to our glee.

There are the reds, the blues, the yellow and gold
Each one painting a picture beauteous to behold
Simply being itself, that’s its intent and goal
Just brightening its corner it adds to the whole.

As you look back on your accumulated days
Your light should have shone in so many ways
But that’s behind you now and the future’s to come
Remember in your own corner you are the only sun.

No one else can light your corner only you
You are your own light believe me that’s true
If your corner be dark you are to blame
You didn’t shine your light and that’s a shame.

But all is not lost for there’s opportunity again
It’s like the sun that peeps out after the rain
Now you have another chance to let your light shine
Just brighten your corner and all will be fine.

There are lessons to learn and much work to do
There is a job on hand for every one of you
If you just brighten the corner not far just near
You’ll find there’s not more on you than you can bear.

So brighten the corner like the star you are
Just brighten the corner that’s near not far
Brighten your corner as only you can do
Brighten your corner is all that is demanded of you.
