On Our Son’s Birthday

Today is our son’s birthday
It comes on this day each year,
Stop scratching your head in puzzlement
For some, the obvious is seldom clear.

This year is different from the rest
But then again it has to be,
If it were not so I guess you’d know
It would be the same year for me.

On a more serious note, though,
I wish that things were different,
Michael would have a great birthday
As is our annual intent.

That joy at the moment is tempered
By the period we are going though,
Yesterday Mamma Russell was interred
And we are under a 24-hour curfew.

In spite of all this, however,
We wish him a happy birthday
That his steps will be guided by Almighty God
And in everything God will have His way.

Help us celebrate with him,
I am sure it will help to make his day,
And if his granny is somewhere listening,
She will celebrate it in her way.

This period we’re in will pass
And the good times will no doubt return
So, for now it is Happy Birthday, Michael,
While for a happier time we yearn.
