No one goes into a business
Hoping to lose
Rather, it is profits and more profits
Which people choose.
Breaking even at first
With the base to improve
Would be a much better prospect
Than projecting to lose.
It is considered a loss
If profit margins decrease
And a business may downsize
To cause such to cease.
That profits are optimal
Is what businesses are about
And the greater the profit margin
The greater their clout.
That having been said
Here’s a question for you,
What are three top businesses
At least, in your view?
While you are thinking
I will give you my three:
First up would be the Government
Of a given country.
The people’s business
In which they have little say
And they, the employers work
To prop it up each day.
This is largely different
From the other two,
It is financed by the taxpayers
To pay the executive crew.
Often the employers
Don’t know an employee’s salary
Whose wages are much higher
Than the employers’ money.
The last verse to you
Probably makes little sense
But employers pay employees-
From this pick sense.
It is our tax dollars
That pay Government officers
Never mind that we have no say
In what they are offered.
They regulate our wages
But we can’t touch theirs
And I say that as our employees,
This is not fair.
Government is the first
And so much for this one,
There are just two more to go
And then I am gone.
Next is the bank
Where we bank our money
And where from reports received
There is great profitability.
Not for us really
But for the filthy rich,
You see banking millions of dollars
Is a wealthy tip.
Never ever will you hear
A bank has incurred a loss,
They make use of everybody’s money
At little or no cost.
When things are brown
They still make a profit
And ever, so often they cut back;
This is another trick.
Their service charges
Obliterate any interest received
Which is really “next kin” to nothing
As far as I perceive.
But they increase profits
In all kinds of circumstances
And we derive absolutely no benefit
In any of these instances.
Regarded as a nuisance
Are the smallest of accounts,
Too much time has to be wasted
Keying in these amounts.
Such persons are penalized
For these small accounts
And they struggled every month
To increase the amount.
I thoroughly dislike banks
But cannot do without
But that I prefer online than in line,
Is without a doubt.
Banks are an injustice
Especially to the poor
And the first business I mentioned
Helps to close the door…
The door to a better standard;
A better standard of living
Since there are few regulatory controls
On the bank’s profiteering.
The third and final one
Encompasses the first two
Though the first two benefit from this one
And this is true.
Everybody needs insurance
Of one kind or another
But how much individuals benefit
Is another matter.
Corporations do benefit
And this, without a doubt
But any policy lapse re an individual
And he or she is given OUT!
No Government controls,
At least none that I know
For these companies do as they like
As the evidence shows.
One faithfully pays
And when comes time to benefit,
One is dragged over the coals
As a standard habit.
You may know an exception
But one is not the rule;
And God help you when they collapse
For then you look like a fool.
They are necessary evils
If you see what I mean
But that the poor is disadvantaged
Is the common scene.
As to which is the worse
I really don’t know
But I do pray they do far better
And that they let it show.
Governments and banks,
As well as insurance companies
Do not in any shape, form or fashion
Alleviate poverty.
Governments sustain a deficit
And it seems deliberately so
But for the other two as we all know,
Huge profits invariably show.
