Currently there’s little comparison
Between the above-mentioned groups:
While the former still has the sway
The latter struggles to regroup.
The stronger with its female element
Outclasses the weaker with its males
And after the two thirty-love floggings
The weaker still licks its wales.
Our democracy is severely threatened
With no opposition in the House
And who will bell the ferocious cat?
There is not a single mouse.
The leader of the Mottley Crew
Marshalls her troupes like a General,
None dares to oppose her wishes!
How I wish one of them would!
The Mix has a youthful leader
With a fragmented backing to support:
A mix of the vanquished success of the past
And a fairly promising, young cohort.
Given the dominance of the Mottley Crew
It appears they will be around for long
And the Motley Mix appears rather clueless
As their wilderness experience prolongs.
In the recent past one observes
The several missteps of the Mottley Crew
But the Motley Mix has been so weakened
There appears little that they could do.
The apparent IDB strategized attempt
Sneaked under the Education Ministry’s nose
And given the emergence of another misstep,
That matter now seems to be closed.
One Minister strongly purports
That his Government is one that listens
But those of us who have been around quite long
Know it is not only gold that glistens.
I dare say the missteps have been bold
As though each one has been pre-planned-
Telling the more observant amongst us
That things are proceeding according to plan.
Put it out there, it would seem to me,
While observing the reaction of John Public
And if it appears it is not a hit
Then don’t be too stubborn to quit.
Just put up an “Animal Farm” Squealer
To explain the whole matter away
And like the good old Barbadian electorate
We appreciate it is human to stray.
And it does not have to make sense
As has been shown in the recent past,
That trouble that was looming on the horizon
Has gone away at last.
The Motley Mix only recently demanded
That the Education Minister should resign
But she indicated to all and sundry
That she had no such decision in mind.
Her leader subsequently made a decision
To reshuffle the ministerial portfolios
And if she even heard the Motley Mix General
I tell you, it never remotely showed.
That Minister still holds her ground
As though nothing untold had happened
And by all indications as far as I can see,
She does not even appear threatened.
And then of course, there’s the youngster
That is accused and charge with rape
And given the alleged leak of classified information
Guilty or not he may escape.
He has been taken down from the position
He held as the Deputy Speaker
And since initially speaking on the matter,
None can get another squeak out of her.
Then she cautioned against prejudging
And with her, I can’t help but agree
Because under the Laws of Barbados,
One is innocent until proven guilty.
But with all of the Mottley Crew’s missteps
The Motley Mix still struggles,
They have been blown away at every step
By the Mottley Crew’s General.
Of course, a day in politics is a long time
And things can quickly change,
The Barbadian electorate can be rather fickle
And do things considered strange.
Like that thirty-love in the first instance
And more strangely, did it again,
And now to the extent that some still believe
A third thirty-love could be in train.
However, Grenada is a stark reminder
For the Motley Mix to bear in mind
That it is still possible to form the Government
When election bells ring next time.
But for the time being
They must sort out the inside disputing
To be able to take the greatest possible advantage
Of the Mottley Crew’s miss-stepping.
Mottley and Motley:
Just is the single difference of a ‘T’
But that ‘T’ tells who’s large and in charge
And I dare say it is Mia Mottley.
