On this date in history,
A mere seven years ago,
Mum lost a husband and we a father
Such a wonderful man to know.
Was without adequate warning
Or so we had at first believed,
While Dad was at the sink washing up
Came the indication of his last meal.
Was at this time he felt unwell
Was Just after the regular Sunday lunch,
But to think that this would be the end
Not one of us had even a hunch.
He was taken to Bay View hospital
And his recovery was quite remarkable
To the extent he would be kept over night
Just to ensure the end of his trouble.
At 2:00 a.m. according to a nurse
As on the hour they would usually check
He was fine and with her had chatted,
On his death, not one would dare to bet.
November 16, 2016
By 3:00 a.m. upon the next check
The icon had passed away,
Needless to say, but I will still report
That was a dismal day.
We saw him on his deathbed
With a smile upon his face,
What he actually saw before he died
Not one of us could trace.
Five verses were written in 2016
On the 7th anniversary of his death,
Today, August 23, 2021,
I was inspired to write the rest.
As I did, I remembered another icon
On whose birthday Dad Russell died,
That Patrick Jackman was an icon also
Can never ever be denied.
And so, I alter the original theme
To include two icons instead of one:
So, In Remembrance of Two Icons
Since both Patrick and Dad are gone.
