My Version

Image result for images for Matthew 25:1

Once there were ten virgins
They were all very chaste,
All were highly moral
But five became a waste.

Five virgins were self-righteous
While five accepted God’s grace,
These five lived at wisdom’s gate
The other five were the other place.

All had oil in their lamps
And walked the Christian way
But not all had oil in store
Just in case there was a delay.

It is most difficult at times
To tell the difference between
Those who are really royalty
And the real king and queen.

And so it was with these virgins
As they walked along the way
But like the wheat and the tears
Were separated on harvest day.

Five to me were professors
And really lived for the show,
Their lamps were shining brightly,
What a luminous glow!

They shone for the world to see
On light they themselves had powered
And only too late they realized
When it ran out before the hour.

The wise virgins on the other hand
Had oil on which they could depend
So that when the bridegroom came
Theirs was the desired end.

I liken the foolish virgins
To many avid churchgoers
Who dot their eyes and cross their “T’s”
But were never really insiders.

That’s a peculiar word I’ll admit
But let me explain what I mean
Since a number of denominations
Can’t get past this initial scene.

There must be an initiation
Of the believer into Christ,
There must be an appreciation
For his atoning sacrifice.

But often people come to church
As the answer to their plight
But the idea of being born again
Is never within their sight.

Image result for images for Matthew 25:1

Take Nicodemus for example
He was a teacher of the Jews
But the born again experience
Was not even within his view.

Yet he walked like a believer
With his lamp trimmed and bright
But no oil for the complete journey;
It wouldn’t last through the night.

The self-righteous oil in our lamps
Is not nearly sufficient,
We need the oil of the Spirit
That is abundant and efficient.

You see at the point of salvation
The oil of the Spirit comes in,
It is really at this juncture
That we are cleansed from our sin.

Image result for images for Matthew 25:1

This is the initiation into Christ
To which I earlier alluded,
Without this oil in the inner man
Such a one will never be included.

This is where the virgins differ
As to they being wise or foolish,
They that had more oil than in their lamps
Were the ones that got their wish.

The ones who felt their oil was enough
Clearly suffered in their cause,
None of us will make it into heaven
If we merely keep God’s laws.

That being the mission impossible
Was what Jesus came and achieved
To make the impossible possible
And now salvation all can receive.

We need not walk as the foolish
We can now walk as the wise
With oil in our lamps and in storage
Lest that day take us by surprise.

I don’t think the virgins were all saved
They were neither saved nor safe,
With oil only in their lamps they were lost
Never an insider in the first place.

Insiders are born again
And are indwelt by the Holy Spirit,
He is the oil that really matters
Not the show that comes from habit.

The Pharisees were very adept
At keeping their light ablaze
But when Jesus stopped then in their tracks
They were utterly amazed.

Their light was only counterfeit
And had simply misled a lot
Who without the genuine light of Christ
Could not their own error spot.

Such are today’s foolish virgins
Only catering to the here and now
Satisfied the oil in their lamps is sufficient
And will get them over somehow.

If this is how you are thinking
From such disabuse your mind,
Not even your religion can save you
If you follow this foolish kind.

Ensure you are Holy Spirit powered
Accept Jesus into your life,
A mere walk without Christ as Saviour
Is the recipe for eternal strife.

The Consolations of Death

What Happens to the Soul of a Dead Christian? • Life after Death series

O death where is thy sting?
For the sting of death is sin
But death has been swallowed up in victory,
In Jesus, death’s vanquisher, I win.

Brooding over the remains of a dear friend
I began to think of the enemy, death,
For here was my friend, void of life
And from all indications apparently at rest.

The occasional sniffle was heard,
Someone was clearing his throat,
A hand reached up to brush a tear away
None in attendance was there to gloat.

O I had been to many a funeral
But this one was unlike the most of them,
This was almost as if it were I,
At this one I was quite overwhelmed.

This death was sudden unlike in the past,
This friend was removed just like that,
No complaints the day before for all seemed well
And no one saw death as it dogged her tracks.

But death had now brought us all together
And therein lay the common cause,
A mutual friend who impacted us all
Drew us from our daily schedule to take a pause.

Time out to mourn, to reflect and think
Partly about the one that had slipped away
But fundamentally too in our own respect
Cognizant that death will stop us too someday.

When that day will be we cannot tell,
Not its fashion, its location or its cause
But what we do know is should Jesus tarry
We too will cause some mutual friends to pause.

And so as I gazed at the face of my friend
I too reflected on my own mortality,
Of a life so elusive, so unsure and short
Yet full of trouble and unpredictability.

So what are the consolations the theme implies?
Perhaps it would be better to ask my friend
For there she lies in her bivouac of life
Though we are assured that death is not the end.

What Happens to the Soul of a Dead Christian? • Life after Death series

Well it’s a passage the Bible informs
So my friend through that passage has gone
To a place that I am not quite certain of
To awake on that glorious, resurrection morn.

That’s the hope of the Christian faith
A consolation to which we hold
For death is transient even as is life
But in eternity with Jesus are treasures untold.

Such you may say pertains to a time to come
But are there any immediate consolations?
O yes there are and quite a few,
Let me suggest some for your consideration.

As I looked down at the face of my friend
There appeared a peace so serene,
She hadn’t a care for the things of this world
She had moved on from this stress filled scene.

No pain or discomfort of any sort,
No worry regarding what tomorrow may bring,
No disappointments or setbacks ever again
Her spirit to worlds unknown has taken wing.

No getting up in the morning to run off to work
Because there were bills to be paid,
She couldn’t care less if the postman arrived
Or if in her community there was a drug raid.

The budget speech could be good or bad,
It really doesn’t matter to her
For at this point she is at truly at rest
And none of these challenges could her bestir.

The utilities could call as much as they like,
Light and Power, Water and Telephone,
At this present time she has no business with them
So it would be better if they leave her alone.

Tax increases and the failing economy
Hurricane predictions and pending tsunamis,
None of these can bother her again
For she has now left her earthly body.

We who are left have nothing on her
For she has graduated at the head of her class,
We must continue to plod along
For we are yet to complete our task.

The cares of this life are ours still
With its daily grind from day to day,
From all of this she is as free as a bird
And it doesn’t matter what the people say.

They could talk whatever they like
As they confuse, abuse and hoodwink us
But she will never be fooled again
For the next one she will hear will be Jesus.

What Happens to the Soul of a Dead Christian? • Life after Death series

O, there are consolations galore in death
For death’s sting has been taken away,
In Jesus death now has an expiry date
Because Jesus rose and is alive today.

“Crucify him!” they shouted and then led him away
To be nailed to the product of a tree,
They buried him in a tomb that was not even his own
But he defeated death on day number three.

This for me is the greatest consolation
It will come exactly as Jesus has assured
That even as he tore the bars of his own death away
Death will not over his saints endure.

So grieve if you must over the lost of my friend
But not as though she has gone without Christ,
For through his death she still has life
What a wonderful, marvelous, consolatory price!

What Bud Get

Image result for images for revenue

Bud Get in the news
Bud Get in me head
All I hearing is Bud Get
Bud Get heavy as lead

Bud Get came down Tuesday
In the mid-afternoon
And when Bud Get finished
There was no election boom

Bud Get increased taxes
Bud Get more to sob
Bud Get reduced earnings
But at least he got a job

No lay-off Bud Get
Like many people expect
Bud Get still working
He didn’t get reject

Bud Get increased social tax
For the social services
An increase of eight percent
One of the biggest increases

Image result for images for revenue

Bud Get to rake in millions
To balance the deficit
Bud Get to raise over half billion
To get the country out a fix

Bud Get praise by some
Bud Get criticize by others
Bud Get all kind of reviews
And some didn’t even bother

Bud Get a divestment
Of a certain large hotel
But Bud Get an investment
That should do us well

Bud Get increased fuel taxes
On diesel and gasoline
More to pay at the pump
A struggle to swim up stream

Bud Get to raise the cost of living
To tweak the foreign reserves
Bud Get credit card horrors
Lifestyle on a downward curve

Bud Get disappointed many
Bud Get surprised a few
But when Bud Get looks back later
He would be happy the economy grew

Image result for images for revenue

For that is Bud Get’s mission
To get out of this hole
So in order to fulfil this mission
Bud Get to be bold

What you get Bud Get
And what Bud Get you get
Waistline must reduce
To tighten your belt

Bud Get to sacrifice
Bud Get to sustain
An economy in dire straits
From going down the drain

Bud Get to change lifestyle
Bud Get to adapt
Bud Get to cut and contrive
And build a stronger back

Bud Get to spend less
And Bud Get to prioritize
Bud Get to improve the outlook
With this useful exercise

I don’t envy Bud Get
Neither am I enthralled
Bud Get a lot
But thank God he didn’t take all

Bud Get in my bones
Bud get all through me
More Bud Get before elections?
We will wait and see

I Have A Voice

Image result for images for public speaking

I have a voice
It was given to me
By God the Creator
 The Almighty

It articulates my opinion
And expresses my choice
It gives vent to my feelings
Thank God for my voice

It breaks forth in melodies
And praises to God
It declares His word
And his wonders laud

It explodes in anger
When I am provoked
But calms a friend
Finding it difficult to cope

It is sometimes still
With nothing to say
Then it proclaims loudly
That God is the way

Image result for images for public speaking

It gives expression
To so many facets
Social and Spiritual
And many other aspects

It can be soft
Or it can be loud
And sometimes what it says
Doesn’t make me proud

It can be hurtful
In its discourse
And has to be restrained
With much needed force

It is expressed in words
That cut and sting
Or in a song
That soothes when I sing

I can use it for evil
Or I can use it for good
I dare say
For the latter I really should

Image result for images for public speaking

I have a responsibility
When using my voice
To make sure always
I make the right choice

Using it to bless others
And honouring the Lord
Telling of his goodness
And proclaiming his word

Using it to witness
To a world that is lost
Of the Saviour’s love
Expressed on the cross

Of his death and burial
And his resurrection too
And the hope it holds
For me and for you

Announcing his coming
With an assured voice
Convincing the world
To make him their choice

I have a voice
And with it I pray
Lord use this voice
As a blessing today

My Prayer: Shaping the World I Touch

Image result for Images for Matthew 5:13

Lord, help me this day
In your own unmistakable way
To do all you would have me to do
And say only what you would have me say.

As I live each and every day
Shape me, O Lord, I pray
That I may shape the world I touch
In your own compassionate way.

May my purpose be your plan
May my proximity be your will
And may my personal touch be your design
As my entire being your Holy Spirit fill.

Lord, even as you were touched
By the feelings of my infirmity
May my touch also be one of compassion
As I relate to all in my proximity

Thank you Lord for my proximity
Thank you Lord for my personal touch
Thank you Lord for your purpose
Knowing that what you ask is never too much.
