Time is an opportunity
Time is an occasion
Time is an event
Time is a vacation
Time is a period
Time is a segment
Time is money
Some even lament
Time is a commodity
I’ve heard people say
You will run out of it
One of these days
Time is a constraint
It’s a fixation too
And it has a limit
For me and for you
Time is many things
To different people
But to everyone
Time is universal
When did it begin?
A good question to ask
Go to the Bible
That’s a simple task.
In the beginning God
Yes time had a start
God created time
Check the Genesis chart
Before He could create
God needed time
So God created it
First off the line
In the beginning God
Let me emphasise
And so anything else
I regard as lies
Some of us buy time
While others spend it
The wise redeem time
Fools’ waste it as habit
But what is time really?
I would like to know
Is it a particle?
Like ice or snow?
Is it a wave?
And hence why it flows?
What really is it?
Does anyone know?
Is it a force?
Is it tangible?
Could one touch time?
Is that possible?
We know so little
About this phenomenon
Yet it is important to us
Each and everyone
Time has a beginning
For you and for me
But it also has an ending
For everybody
We exist in time
Until for us it stops
God is the sole determinant
Whatever our lot
To everything a season
And purpose under heaven
In Ecclesiastes Chapter 3
In the Bible it’s written
Wise Solomon declared
A time for
everything
A time to mourn and weep
A time to laugh and sing
There’s a time to love
A time for hate to cease
A time of war
A time to get and to lose
A time to cast away
Time to do what we must do
While for us it is day
Our time may be long
Or our time maybe short
When our time is up
We have to abort
Time may be a day
A week or a year
None of us knows how long
Before time disappears
For as sure as there was
A beginning to time
There will be an ending
At the end of its line
The critical point therefore
Is not a definition find
But redeeming it
Before the end of time
The end of time
Can come in two ways
Either one’s going home
Or the end of all days
For you or for me
Whichever way it comes
For each of us
It will be our setting sun
What is time?
I am still not sure
But one thing I know
In eternity it’ll be no more
