Omen and Amen:
Do not mix up these two,
Amen is rendered as “so let it be”,
Omen is voodoo.
A prayer for something
Accompanied by an Amen,
But something rather foreboding
Is considered an omen.
Beware the Ides of March
As in Julius Caesar,
Was an omen of something dread
That was not far.
And as you know
It actually came to pass,
The emperor on a day in March
Breathed his very last.
The highly superstitious
Set store by omen
But the spiritual and religious
Rest on the Amen.
So that when they pray
To the Father Most High,
They end with a confident Amen
Regarding their supply.
So let it be, dear Father,
Who supplies all our needs,
We need no omen or portent,
Just a simple creed.
By faith we trust in Jesus
Who from the Father came:
The only begotten of the Father
Who right now reigns.
King of kings is he
And LORD of Lords as well,
And he tabernacles with his people
And in their heart dwells.
Omen spells uncertainty,
Amen in the Amen is sure,
Reject palm readers and diviners
And trust Jesus more.
I’d rather trust in Jesus
The faithful and true witness
Whose word is never known to fail
And always stands the test.
Amen before omen!
Rather, omen not at all!
Jesus is the eternal Word of God
In whom we’ll never fall.
