Jeering and Cheering

Benbrook Cheers and Jeers

Some were jeering

And some were cheering

But it was difficult to define

What we were hearing.

It was election time,

I remember not where

But let me definitively state

That I wasn’t there.

The candidate was liked

As shown by the cheering

But it is also interesting to note

The amount of jeering.

Cheers & Jeers

Liked and disliked

Were both very evident

By the jeering and cheering

Going on at present.

I wanted to play

With these two words:

Alike in some ways but opposite

You would observe.

Nice rhyming words

When brought together

But the obvious opposite responses

Is another matter.

In the present scenario

Very difficult to separate

But particularly synonymous

To love and hate.

Though it need not be

In an election campaign

But over and over we see it,

Again, and again.

Cheers & Jeers

Pardon my redundancy

As it allows for rhyme

Just like jeering and cheering;

Forgive me this time.

English is confusing

But I like it still

Jeering is never ever good

But cheering is a thrill.

Nearly similar in sound

In their pronunciation

But vastly different, you’ll agree,

In their definition.

As for that candidate

The response is complex:

Many are enamoured with her

But many see a threat.

Cheers & Jeers

As you read this poem

Some of you might jeer

But hopefully for my own sake

The majority will cheer.

Jeering and cheering

That’s my take on these two,

Whether that lady wins or not,

I won’t have a clue.
